BRIDGE SUMMER STUDIES APPLICATIONS DUE OCTOBER 31

University of Montevallo TRIO Upward Bound Programs BRIDGE Summer Studies

What is Bridge?  The TRIO Upward Bound program offers newly graduated Seniors to “BRIDGE” their summer after graduation and take a University of Montevallo class for college credit.  At the end of the course, students can transfer this college coursework to any college/university of their choosing.

What are the qualifications for the Bridge Summer Studies Program?  All Bridge students must meet the following guidelines:
  1.  Be accepted to the University of Montevallo for Summer I before March 15th  (usually minimum requirements are an 18 ACT Composite and a 3.0 GPA).  GPA’s below 3.0 require a higher ACT score.
  2. Complete the Bridge application and submit it before October 29th (you can change your mind about participating in Bridge, but without an application by this deadline, that’s it).
  3.  Have met all Community Service and Cultural Enrichment requirements before April 10th
  4. Have attended 12/16 Academic Sessions (or Super Saturday make up Sessions) per year.
  5. Complete the TRIO Upward Bound Bridge Interview—mid April (You will be assigned a time for your interview once all of the above qualifications are satisfied).

What does the Bridge Summer Studies program cost?  Nothing.  The program pays for your tuition for 1 college class.  The TRIO UB program also provides room and board, fees, meals, books, tutoring, and supplies needed for the class (an approximate cost of $5,500--$7,000), as well as the end-of-summer out of state cultural trip.  You also receive stipends for your attendance and you can also do Work Study to earn extra income.
What do the Bridge Summer Studies’ students do?  The Bridge students are enrolled in a college class—usually English 101, Math 131, Chemistry 100, or History 101 (classes that can transfer to any college the Bridge students plan to attend in the fall).  They attend Bridge tutoring, college classes, personal, academic and professional development classes just like regular TRIO Upward Bound students.
Are there additional benefits of the Bridge program?  For students planning to attend the University of Montevallo in the Fall, it is wise to complete the Bridge program.  At the completion of the Bridge program, students who have attended UB every summer qualify for the University of Montevallo Tuition Scholarship, which covers one 3 hour course for 8 semesters (approximately $1,200 x 8=$9,600 over four years) as long as you maintain a 2.5 GPA.

SENIOR FAFSA DAY

One of the most important tasks of your Senior Year involves the successful completion of the FAFSA.  Even if you don't think you will qualify for the Pell Grant, many colleges and universities require the completion of the FAFSA before any scholarships can be credited to your account.
Make plans now to attend Senior FAFSA Day and get assistance with your FAFSA so you have it done CORRECTLY the first time!  All of the TRIO Upward Bound staff and Master Tutors will be available to give you one-to-one attention.  See you there!
